Biosketch: Frank X. McCarthy
Before he became involved in recruiting minority executives, Frank McCarthy served as a Catholic priest for fifteen years. A native of Medford, Massachusetts, he was ordained for the diocese of Paterson on February 2, 1956. He was assigned to St. Nicholas Parish in Passaic, NJ where for the next three years he did parish work and taught at Pope Pius High School.
Frank spent the next six years as a Paratrooper Chaplain with the 101st Airborne and served tours in Korea and Japan. After his military service he was made Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Paterson, NJ where in addition to parish duty he was involved in a variety of projects in the African American and Hispanic communities. After resigning from the canonical ministry in 1970 he joined the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity in New York City, and then later in Boston.
Frank founded Xavier Associates in May 1973 to serve national clients in the recruitment of minority professionals. With a staff of 20 people, Xavier specializes in search, recruitment, and candidate research for both traditional and minority candidates.
In January, 1999 Xavier Associates was acquired by Robert D. Gatti, the President of Gatti Associates, a nationally known search firm which focuses on recruiting human resources professionals throughout the United States.
Frank and his wife Ginny have three grown children and live in the Greater Boston area. He continues to contribute actively to the support of clergy and religious in transition.
