A Call for Nominations

CORPUS EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS IN 2008

As you know, the presidential primary races are in full swing.  2008 will also be a year to elect a new CORPUS executive Board, inclusive of President, Secretary and Treasurer.

In an effort to become a more inclusive organization, we invite you to nominate yourself, another man or woman, married couples and domestic partners to serve on the CORPUS Executive Board.  The primary requirement is that candidates be CORPUS members in good standing.

For the first time in our history, CORPUS will allow a husband and wife or domestic partners to run for a single seat.  (If elected, the couple would have one vote on Board motions.)

Nominations are open to current CORPUS members who are dedicated to reform, collegial decision-making, inclusive ministry, and a Church community centered in Christ.  Newly elected Board persons will assume their duties in July of 2008, which will coincide with our summer conference in Boston.

+ The Executive Board consists of three elected members or couples, who are assisted by several staff members, and an Advisory Board of former CORPUS presidents.  The Board is designed to manage the organization and delegate work to members.  Working knowledge of CORPUS history and mission and good managerial skills are required.

+ Candidates, both young and old, are being sought to both continue the mission and goals of our organization and to provide leadership via a healthy vision for future growth.

+ The candidate with the highest number of votes will become president.  The offices of secretary and treasurer will be decided amongst the officers of the Board as they see fit, together with staff support as deemed necessary.

+ As the collegial governing body of CORPUS, the national Board leads the mission of CORPUS in working toward an inclusive sacramental priesthood, supports and connects CORPUS members, develops service initiatives that further our mission at home and abroad, and ensures funding is in place to facilitate growth.  It also approves formal collaborative efforts with other organizations, appoints and supervises sufficient staff to carry out its work, and consults with the Advisory Board as necessary.

+ Any CORPUS member or couple may run for the Board, even if they have served before.  Nominees must be CORPUS members in good standing at the time of nomination.

+ Board members are elected to a three-year term.  They may be elected to two consecutive three-year terms.

+ The Board meets at least once annually, regularly via conference calls, and frequently by e-mail.

+ Because Board Members communicate by e-mail several times weekly, full access to a computer, the internet, and e-mail is required for Board membership.

+ Board members make regular phone and e-mail contact with members.

+ Board members receive no compensation for their services except reimbursement for reasonable expenses while acting on behalf of the Association.

+ Nominees should be aware that Board members’ names and contact data are public information.  If elected, they must be available to members at home evenings and weekends.

+In order to nominate a person(s) you must submit a brief summary of the person(s) qualifications for an office.  Simply submitting a name will not guarantee a place on the ballot.

+ Nominees will be contacted and interviewed by the Elections Committee, which will approve the final slate of candidates.

+ The election will be held via ballots sent by a separate mailing in the spring of 2008.

+ Nominations must be received by December 1, 2007.  Please e-mail nominations to the two facilitators of the election process:  Ray Grosswirth: rgrosswirth@corpus.org and Stu O’Brien: sobrien@corpus.org.  Be sure to provide address, phone number and e-mail address for each nominee.

Thank you from the present Executive CORPUS Board:
Russ Ditzel, CORPUS President
Linda Pinto, CORPUS Secretary
Bill Manseau, CORPUS Treasurer
