AFFIRMING AN INCLUSIVE PRIESTHOOD, ROOTED IN A REFORMED AND RENEWED CHURCH

Pruss, James

November, 2006
Miami, FL

James died of pneumonia in Miami, November 2006.  Jim was a Midwesterner, ordained a Maryknoll priest in 1956 and served the Quechua and Aymara Indigenous in Bolivia.  There he became a leader in radio literacy programs.  In the late 1960s he met and married Olga, a radio and TV personality in the Dominican Republic, who was also involved in the literacy program.  For many years he worked as a school administrator in Miami and also took an active role in career counseling for priests in transition.

In retirement he and Olga returned to the Dominican Republic to create and adult literacy program similar to the one in Bolivia.  A White House Conference honored the program as one of the nine best methodologies in the world.  His dream was to establish the program in every parish in Latin America.

Eternal rest to this good and faithful servant.
