John Gallagher 1474015960 GALLAGHER, John J. – 88, of Cape May passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016. John attended St. Charles Seminary and was ordained into the priesthood in 1954. He began his ministry in three Philadelphia parishes and was devoted to his vocation. After he finished his active ministry he attended Temple University and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration. Thereafter he enjoyed a 15 year career serving as the administrator of John F. Kennedy Hospital in Washington Township. After his retirement from the hospital, John served as the Ship’s Chaplain aboard various cruise ships, performing all clergy duties. John had a special fondness for Cape May and enjoyed living the past 30 years of his life here, all the while committed to his vocation, performing many beach weddings. John was devoted to his wife Ann, his parents and his immediate and extended family. John enjoyed attending family events with Ann, and everyone looked forward to their company. He had an engaging personality and always displayed a positive and encouraging attitude about life. John had a great sense of humor and pride in his Irish heritage. He always enjoyed spending time with his two beloved Irish Setters, Shannon and Bridget. He and Ann enjoyed traveling extensively through the US and foreign countries. John is dearly missed by his loving family which includes his wife of 42 years, Ann (nee McCarthy); brothers, Joseph (and Kathryn) and James Gallagher; as well as his nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (Sept. 24th) at 11am in St. Agnes Church, 501 Cape Ave., Cape May Point where friends will be received from 10am – 11am. Interment will be private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to: Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity, 3501 Solly Ave., Philadelphia PA 19136.
