REST IN PEACE

Grove Renier Hayden passed away on Feb. 9, 2018, in Oklahoma City. Grove was born Jan. 30, 1930, in Tulsa, OK to Henry and Louise Hayden. Grove grew up in Tulsa, graduating from Marquette High School in 1947. He attended seminary and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1955. His assignments in the Diocese of Oklahoma took him to parishes and missions in McAlester, Fairfax, Sterling, Elgin, Walters and Oklahoma City. He taught religion for a time at Bishop McGuinness High School. Grove left the active priesthood in 1968. He lived in the Washington, DC area briefly, then returned to Oklahoma City to assist his brother, William, in running a popular import / export business called World Bazaar. Following retirement, he became a Master Gardener. Gardening remained his passion for the rest of his life. His humor and wit were always welcome among friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Francis, Henry, and William. He leaves behind his niece, Sarah Morris and her husband Crews Morris; niece, Marcia Hayden; nephew, John Hayden and his wife Dana Deere; sister-in-law, Iola Hayden (wife of William); and seven great- nephews and nieces. Grove's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church at 7336 West Britton Road in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in honor of Grove's life be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
