Ann Boyce Bukovchik (aka Buko) died peacefully on December 2, 2015 surrounded by her immediate family. Three and a half months prior, she was diagnosed with aggressive liver cancer. Her cremens were interred at the Old Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside, California.
Ann was a past CORPUS board member and headed the 1996 Corpus National Conference at UCSD in La Jolla, California. Over 300 attended. Ann earned her MSN from Catholic University in D.C., was a pubic health nurse as well as a certified mid-wife. She was a school nurse for several decades, and was a missionary nurse with the Daughters of Mary, Health of the Sick in Okinawa from 1964 to 1968.. During her second year of language studies at the Franciscan Language in Rappongi, Japan, she met her husband, Joseph, then a Maryknoll missioner. Together, they made four Christians, Renee, Elise, Natasha and Juleann. Another child was miscarried; her name is Love.
Ann was a gentle, kind, peaceful, wise lady who was always close to our Triune God. Before she died, her deceased brother, Jimmy Boyce came to her along with Love to lead her to paradise. These two souls made themselves evident near the time of death. Jimmy was ordained from the North American College in 1953 and Ann attended him during his last months of life when he died at age 33 of cancer.
Ann was active in the parish of St. Thomas More in Oceanside, CA. where she was the Women's Guild president for two years. She was active in the peace and justice group and loved to quilt. Ann was community minded and over 400 folks attended her funeral on January 8, 2016.
