REST IN PEACE
Louis Joseph Giuliana of Bensalem, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away on May 7, 2020 at the age of 80. Son of the late Salvatore and Carolina Giuliana. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Sloan) for 52 years. Loving father of Mark Giuliana (Kimberly), Matthew Giuliana (Geraldine), Michael Giuliana, Christa Madden (Matthew). Predeceased by his beloved daughter Janine Giuliana. Grandfather of Justin, Nicholas, Jack, Max, Jake, Brendan, Libby, Eneas, Anom and Nayla. Dear brother of Christopher Giuliana (Trudy), Bernadette Worthington (James), and Terez Giuliana (Thomas).Lou attended St. Thomas More High School and at 15 years old entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 1961 and continued with many graduate studies in Theology and Humanities at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary and then at Temple University. He received a Master of Arts in Education at St. Joseph's University in 1973. He was an active member of the St. Thomas More Alumni Association.Lou held positions at Temple University and the Charles Morris Price School before he found his calling at Holy Family University in 1984. He was hired as Director of the Career Center, a position he genuinely enjoyed, in an environment that was so important to him. After retiring from his position at the Career Center, he continued to teach Public Speaking at Holy Family until 2018 when he suffered a debilitating stroke. Lou raised his family in Northeast Philadelphia where he relished watching his children participate in various sports and activities and made countless valued friends. He was a lector and an active member of St. Anselm Parish and continued to volunteer his time as a lector at St. Ephrem parish after moving to Bensalem in 1998. He loved and lived his faith daily and attending daily Mass was an important part of his day. He traveled to Washington D.C. every January to participate in the annual March for Life. Lou loved performing, be it in front of his students, or in the many stage shows he participated in throughout high school, college, and into adulthood. He loved being a part of a barbershop quartet with his close friend, Fr. Al Smith. While Lou missed his daughter Janine enormously, he took great joy and pride in watching the accomplishments of his children as they raise their own families and adored the times he spent with his 10 grandchildren. In his spare time, Lou was an avid puzzler and he appreciated relaxing with a history book, watching the birds feed and nest in the back yard, collecting baseball cards and even enjoyed playing chess against himself. He was an Eagles fan and never wavered from his dedication to the Philadelphia Athletics despite their relocation to Oakland. His greatest lament was when he returned home from the seminary one summer to find out his mother cleaned his room and threw out his (very valuable today) baseball card collection!Lou's favorite place to vacation was Ocean City, NJ. He could sit on the beach for hours just reading a book. His yearly Christmas trips to Lititz with his wife Pat were getaways that they both looked forward to and cherished. The Civil War Reenactments were another event that he always delighted in. His fondest memory was his long-awaited cruise to and land tour of Alaska.Lou spent the last two years at Neshaminy Manor Nursing Home in Warrington, PA. where he made the best of an unfortunate situation. He made some very close friends and won the hearts of most of the staff. Lou's wife, Pat, and children are extremely grateful to the nurses and staff at Neshaminy Manor for the care, compassion, friendship and love that they showed Lou and his family during his stay.Lou will have a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ephrem Church and will be buried alongside his treasured daughter, Janine. Due to the restrictions imposed as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the ceremony will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for the health and safety of family and friends. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lou's memory may be made to FIRST Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types at http://www.firstskinfoundation.org/ or to the Legacy of Life Foundation https://www.legacyoflifefoundation.org/
